About Bryce Canyon
Bryce Canyon is not a canyon at all but a chain of vast natural amphitheaters eroded into the pink cliffs of a high Utah plateau — and filled, rim to floor, with thousands upon thousands of hoodoos: slender stone spires in every shade of flame, rose, and cream. The Paiute told of ancient beings turned to stone; geology tells of frost and rain sculpting the rock for millions of years; at sunrise, when the whole silent army lights up at once, either story feels true.
At over 8,000 feet, Bryce pairs its strange beauty with alpine freshness — fir-scented air, mule deer among the pines, and some of the darkest night skies in America, ablaze with stars. Rim viewpoints like Sunrise, Sunset, and Inspiration Points serve the panorama; the Navajo Loop and Queen's Garden trails descend among the spires themselves, threading switchbacks and slot-like corridors where the hoodoos tower overhead like a Gothic city.
