About the Port
Cerro Dragon, or Dragon Hill, lies along the northwestern shore of Santa Cruz Island in the Galápagos Archipelago. A shaded trail winds through arid-zone vegetation dotted with palo santo trees before opening onto a brackish lagoon favored by pink flamingos and shorebirds. The path continues uphill past nesting burrows of land iguanas, once nearly lost to the island but reestablished through long-running conservation efforts, offering close views of these amber-hued reptiles in their natural habitat.
Because there is no dock, visitors reach the site by panga landing directly onto the beach, making sturdy footwear and a readiness for a wet landing worthwhile. The walk is moderate, rewarding those who make the crossing with a compact but rich cross-section of Galápagos wildlife and landscape, from coastal lagoon to dry upland forest, in a single easy outing.
