Dubrovnik

Medieval ramparts, marble streets, and the glittering Adriatic meet in one of Europe's best-preserved walled cities

All Cruise Ports

About the Port

Encircled by towering stone walls dating to the 10th century and crowned by the Minceta Tower, Dubrovnik's Old Town remains one of the Mediterranean's most complete medieval city centers. Car-free limestone streets lead past the Gothic-Renaissance Rector's Palace and along the Stradun, the main promenade connecting the old harbor to the city gates, with red-tiled roofs and white stone facades set against turquoise water.

Many ships anchor offshore, with tenders delivering travelers directly to the edge of the Old Town, making the walk to its landmarks brief and level. A circuit atop the ancient walls offers sweeping views over rooftops and sea, while quieter lanes and cliffside cafés reward those who wander beyond the main thoroughfare. The compact scale of the walled city makes it easy to explore thoroughly within a single visit.

Pavlus Recommendations

How our planners would spend a day in Dubrovnik.

Ride the Mount Srđ Cable Car

A short cable car climb from just outside the walls reaches a summit with panoramic views over the Old Town and the Adriatic. The trip takes about 10 minutes each way; book a time slot ahead if visiting during peak hours.

Sip a Drink at Buža Bar

Tucked into a gap in the seaward walls, this cliffside café serves drinks over the open water with nowhere to sit but sun-warmed rock. Follow small 'Cold Drinks' signs from Stradun to find its hidden entrance.

Cross to Lokrum Island

A quick ferry ride from the Old Harbor leads to this pine-forested island with a botanical garden, saltwater lake, and quiet coves for swimming. Round trip and exploring can be done in a couple of hours.
