About the Port
The Isle of Noss lies just off Bressay in the Shetland archipelago, a small, uninhabited island managed as a national nature reserve. Its dramatic sea cliffs, rising sharply from the North Atlantic, form one of the finest seabird sanctuaries in Britain, home each summer to dense colonies of gannets, guillemots, puffins, and great skuas. The cliffscape known as the Noup of Noss is a particular highlight, its ledges crowded with nesting birds and its skies alive with wheeling flocks.
Visits typically arrive by small boat, as Noss has no formal pier or town, keeping the island close to its untouched, elemental character. Walking paths cross open moorland and hug the clifftop, offering sweeping views back toward Bressay and Lerwick. It is a place best suited to those drawn to rugged landscapes, birdlife, and the quiet drama of Scotland's northern edge.
