About the Port
Plaza Sur, one of the smallest yet most concentrated wildlife sites in the Galápagos archipelago, rises from the sea in a landscape of tilted lava terraces and dense Opuntia cactus forest. Its proximity of land and marine iguana populations has produced the rare Galápagos hybrid iguana, found nowhere else. A short, well-marked trail climbs from the rocky landing to a cliff-top overlook where sea lions haul out below and tropicbirds, Nazca boobies, and swallow-tailed gulls wheel along the updrafts.
Visits are strictly limited and arranged in small groups, with landings by panga rather than a fixed pier, keeping foot traffic light and the island's ecosystem intact. Nearby Santa Fe adds a contrasting stop, its calm beaches and turquoise shallows suited to swimming, snorkeling, or a slow walk among resting sea lions. Together the two islands offer a compact, richly detailed introduction to the natural forces that shape the Galápagos.

Walk the Cliff-Top Trail
Follow the marked loop up through the Opuntia cactus forest to the sea cliffs, where sea lions bark below and tropicbirds and swallow-tailed gulls ride the updrafts overhead; allow about an hour at an easy pace.
Spot the Hybrid Iguana
Scan the lava terraces for the rare land-marine iguana cross found only here, a direct result of the two species nesting in close proximity.
Snorkel or Swim at Santa Fe
Take a panga to Santa Fe's calm turquoise shallows to swim or snorkel alongside resting sea lions and reef fish, a relaxed contrast to Plaza Sur's dry-landing hike.
