About Ravello
Ravello floats a thousand feet above the Amalfi Coast on a mountain shelf between two ravines, aloof from the bustle of the shore towns below. It grew rich on medieval trade with the East and has spent the centuries since perfecting the art of the view: from its two legendary villas, the coastline unrolls in a haze of blue that has bewitched Wagner, Greta Garbo, Gore Vidal, and nearly everyone else who ever climbed the hill.
Villa Rufolo's Moorish cloisters and flower terraces inspired Wagner's Parsifal and now stage the town's famous summer music festival on a platform hanging over the sea; Villa Cimbrone's gardens end at the Terrace of Infinity, its marble busts gazing over what Vidal called the most beautiful view in the world. Between them lie a serene cathedral piazza, ceramic ateliers, and lanes where the loudest sound is a church bell.
Pavlus Recommendations
How our planners would spend a day in Ravello.
Stand on the Terrace of Infinity
Villa Cimbrone's clifftop belvedere is the Amalfi Coast's defining view — sea and sky merging far below the marble balustrade. Go early or late for the light and the quiet.
Wander Villa Rufolo's gardens
Umbrella pines, tumbling flowers, and that famous festival stage suspended over the blue — if music is playing while you're in town, don't miss a concert in this setting.
Walk down to Amalfi
Ancient stair-paths drop through lemon terraces and hamlets to the coast below. It's downhill all the way, wildly scenic, and there's always a bus back up.
