About The Port Of Silistra
Set on the Danube in northeastern Bulgaria near the Romanian border, Silistra has long been a crossroads of empires. Once a formidable Ottoman fortress and trade center in the 15th century, it later saw fighting during the Russo-Turkish wars of the 1870s, passed briefly to Romania after the Second Balkan War, and finally returned to Bulgarian rule in 1940.
