About Whichaway Camp
Whichaway is White Desert's flagship camp and very likely the most remarkable accommodation on earth: seven futuristic sleeping pods perched on ice-free rock at the edge of the Schirmacher Oasis, overlooking a frozen freshwater lake and the endless white of the ice sheet beyond. Inside the pods it's all polar-explorer romance — rich textiles, writing desks, wash basins — while the lounge, library, and dining pods serve gourmet meals, saunas and yoga happen on the ice, and the silence outside is absolute.
The surrounding oasis is a geological rarity: one of the few places on the continent where bare rock, meltwater lakes, and wind-sculpted ice meet. Days from Whichaway fan out on foot and by vehicle — abseiling into ice caves beneath the lake, kayaking melt channels in high summer, picnicking on the ice sheet, and standing at the edge of the vast Antarctic plateau with nothing but white to the horizon.
Pavlus Recommendations
How our planners would spend a day in Whichaway Camp.
Sleep in a polar pod
Your bedroom is a heated, fiberglass exploration pod on the rock of Antarctica itself — part Shackleton, part space station, entirely unforgettable.
Descend into the ice tunnels
Beneath the oasis, meltwater has carved caves and tunnels of glowing blue ice. Guides rope you down into a crystal world few humans have ever entered.
Dine at the bottom of the world
A private chef plates multi-course dinners while the midnight sun circles outside — the most improbable fine dining on the planet, shared with at most eleven other guests.
