Antarctica rewards planning. The strongest pricing and the best cabins come out when a season opens, 12 to 18 months ahead, and the small ships fill from the suites down.
The first and last months of the season usually carry the lowest fares, with their own rewards: pristine snow and courting penguins early, the best whale watching late.
Sailing the Drake is the most affordable way to land on Antarctica; classic voyages start at $9,268. Fly-the-Drake fares are similar per voyage but buy fewer nights.
